As a platform designed by the industry for the industry, Covantis connects market participants globally, streamlining trade execution processes to boost efficiency and mitigate risks. Offering a portfolio of cutting-edge products powered by AI, the platform optimizes document workflows, facilitates electronic documentation, and enhances contract mapping. With over 50 employees across 10 countries, Covantis fosters a growth-oriented, change-driven culture, driving the agricultural supply chain into a new era of digitalization embraced by the industry’s leading players.
Who we are looking for
Covantis is seeking a Senior Back-End Software Engineer (with AI experience) who loves (and is good at) solving hard yet exciting engineering problems and bringing new products and features to life. If you love being a part of the solution, actively contributing to discoveries, gaining deep understanding of customer needs, analysing intricate details of their business processes and empathising their pains, and ready to shape and implement solutions to those problems, this is a role for you.
What you will do
As a Senior Software Engineer at Covantis, you will work across multiple products in our portfolio (we currently have 5) to develop and improve features that directly address real-life problems in the supply chain operations. Your first assignment will be Covantis QuickDocs – an AI-powered product aimed at simplifying shipping and trade documents verification, accuracy and consistency checking. It’s a gamechanger for the industry with the high operational risk where a simple mistake in a document can easily cost you tens of thousands of dollars per day due to delays.
Work directly with a Product Manager and a Designer to understanding business cases and user needs and shape/design a solution together, consulting the rest of the team and Engineering Manager when necessary. We expect you to not only decide on how to implement things from the technical perspective, but brainstorm with the PM or the Designer helping define what the solution to the problem would even be.
Collaborate with other developers to deliver complex solutions for automating or digitalising all sorts of processes in supply chain operations.
Participate in technical design discussions. Produce technical documentation as needed in support of complex technical concepts, write ADRs for topics requiring complex decision making and cross-team alignment.
Build web-application back-end and front-end. We also support and encourage contributions beyond that – to infra, org-level policies and practices etc.
Deliver code to production using CI/CD and best DevOps practices.
Be involved in all phases of software development life cycle: implementing new features or changes to existing features, writing tests, fixing bugs/defects, doing code reviews, deploying to production, responding to incidents etc.
Occasionally help other teams working on other products if they happen to have a particularly challenging case or a tight deadline.
Our Tech Stack
Node.js, Nest.js, React, Jest/Vitest, MUI on Covantis Voyages, Tailwind on other products, Refine, Storybook, Chromatic, Playwright, Postgres/RDS, Redis/ElastiCache, Kafka/MSK, S3, K8s/EKS and other managed services in AWS, Terraform, GitLab, Elastic.
Hard skill we require
Senior-level, 5+ years of experience in software engineering.
2+ years of experience in developing back-end for web apps using a common web framework.
Strong experience any high-level strongly typed programming language.
Familiar with best practices in back-end architecture, performance, security etc.
Strong advocate for testing, experience with modern testing frameworks and best practices.
Experience with CI/CD and DevOps best practices to build, test and ship your code fast.
Experience with monitoring / observability tools.
Advanced skills in use of AI coding agents.
Nice to haves:
Experience shipping LLM features inside a product, not a demo. You've integrated at least one major model provider (Anthropic, Google, OpenAI or Bedrock) into a real application: structured outputs with schema validation, prompt evaluation and regression testing, and measuring and reducing cost and latency through caching, model selection and fallback strategies.
Strong experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
Experience developing modern front-end for web app using React.
Experience with IaaC.
Soft skills we value
Strong Communication: You can explain complex technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Collaboration: You thrive in a team environment, valuing input from others and contributing to shared goals and work closely as a remote team.
Adaptability: You’re comfortable with change and can pivot quickly when priorities shift.
Problem-Solving: You approach challenges with a solution-oriented mindset, a sense of curiosity and a strong determination to investigate, research, and thoroughly understand the problem initially, followed by validating the solution.
Empathy: You understand the needs and concerns of teammates and customers, fostering a supportive work environment.
Proactiveness & Sense of ownership: You take initiative and identify/propose areas for improvements (both functional and technical) to make the product better, instead of relying on constant direction.
What you will love about us
An inspiring environment working together with the brightest software engineers in truly international team across Europe. Our hiring philosophy is “We seek out people who would be among the best you’ve ever worked with”. That requirement of course applies to you too, but also guarantees that the team you join is going to be top tier.
We’re truly agile. No fancy methodology cargo cult. We use elements of common agile practices to the extent that they are useful to us, adapting our way of working based on what the team feels is right for the moment.
Work full-time with flexible hours and remotely in the country you are hired in.
An entrepreneurial environment with immediate responsibility and a chance to make a difference from the day 1. No-one’s going to give you detailed requirements and prescriptive designs for a feature. You are a part of the solution. You will be working directly with a Product Manager and a Designer (maybe even interacting with customers at times) to understand the business case, customer needs and shape a solution together. If you prefer working with fully detailed requirements in Jira, engineering roles at Covantis might not be the best fit for you.
Unlimited individual growth opportunities and the ability to create a personalized career path. Many of our team members have successfully transitioned from QA to Software Engineering, from Back-end to Full Stack, and from Engineering to Management. We actively support professional development by matching individuals with the right opportunities and initiatives to expand their knowledge and maximize their impact. Plus, we provide a generous learning and development (L&D) budget to support continuous learning and career advancement.
Our company comprises amazing people, a supportive atmosphere and a culture built on mutual support, respect and care for people, that can only happen in a fun and rewarding workplace built by the kind of people Covantis employs.
Innovative project transforming the supply chain operations for the entire industry, with big name clients and exposure to cutting edge emerging technologies.
Give us your best and we will give you ours!
