Overview

We are supporting a global banking organisation as they continue to expand an innovative, AI-enabled Application Security function.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Application Security Specialist, Security Champion, or Software Engineer with a strong security background to join a team leveraging cutting-edge AI technology to identify and remediate vulnerabilities across critical banking applications. The role sits at the intersection of Application Security, Software Engineering, and AI, providing significant exposure to high-profile systems across Markets, Investment Banking, and Retail Banking.

The Opportunity

As AI continues to accelerate the pace at which vulnerabilities can be identified and exploited, the organisation has developed an advanced AI security framework that scans critical applications and highlights potential attack paths. Rather than building the AI models themselves, this team is responsible for validating findings, separating genuine security risks from false positives, and working directly with engineering teams to drive remediation efforts.

This position is highly visible within the security organisation and offers the opportunity to influence security outcomes across some of the bank's most critical applications.

Responsibilities

Analyse AI-generated security findings and validate potential attack paths.
Determine whether vulnerabilities represent genuine threats or false positives.
Partner closely with software engineering teams to explain security risks and remediation requirements.
Challenge and influence developers where necessary to ensure security vulnerabilities are appropriately addressed.
Take ownership of vulnerability remediation, ensuring clear accountability and follow-through.
Interpret security reports from tools including SonarQube, Snyk, Aqua and other application security platforms.
Act as a trusted technical advisor between Security and Engineering teams.
Support the adoption of AI-enabled security practices across the organisation.

Required Experience

5+ years' experience within Application Security, Secure Software Development, Security Engineering, or similar.
Previous experience within Banking, Financial Services, Investment Banking, Capital Markets, or other highly regulated environments.
Strong hands-on Java development background.
Ability to read, understand and assess source code.
Experience reviewing security findings and advising on remediation approaches.
Strong communication skills with the ability to influence engineering stakeholders.
Comfortable working with AI tools and understanding how AI-generated outputs should be validated and challenged.
